U.S. and Five Eyes Allies Warn of Chinese Espionage via Job Platforms
The United States, along with its Five Eyes intelligence partners, has issued a joint warning about China's use of LinkedIn and other job platforms to extract secret information from security professionals globally. This alert marks a significant step as it is the first time the Five Eyes group, which includes the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, has collectively issued a public warning on this issue. The warning highlights China's use of artificial intelligence and other tools to create fake profiles and job offers targeting military officers and spies. These operatives pose as employees of consultancies or think tanks, enticing individuals with access to classified information to share nonpublic data, often with financial incentives. The alert was drafted by the FBI and MI5, among others, and follows previous separate warnings about similar threats.
