Canvas Hack Disrupts University Students During Finals Week
A significant cybersecurity breach has affected universities and school systems across the United States, disrupting students' access to grades, study materials, and quizzes during finals week. The breach involved a ransom note appearing on the homepage of Canvas, a widely used digital classroom platform. The hacking group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the second such incident this month. Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, reported that user names, email addresses, and student ID numbers were compromised in a previous attack on May 1. The company is currently investigating the issue and has placed Canvas in maintenance mode. The breach has affected numerous institutions, including Georgetown University, the University of Pennsylvania, and several school districts nationwide.
