Telemundo Executive José Alberto Suárez Dies in Kenya Helicopter Crash
José Alberto Suárez, the president and general manager of Telemundo’s TV stations in Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers-Naples, Florida, died in a helicopter crash in Samburu County, northeastern Kenya. Suárez, aged 55, was one of four Americans among the seven people killed in the incident, which included the pilot. NBCUniversal News Group chairman Cesar Conde, NBCU Local chairman Valari Staab, and Telemundo station group president Jose Cancela confirmed his death in a memo to employees. The memo highlighted Suárez's significant contributions over his 20-year career with NBCU, where he held various leadership roles, including leading stations in San Antonio, Sacramento, Fresno, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas. He was also a long-standing member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists since 1998 and had received multiple honors, including a Lone Star Emmy and several Suncoast Chapter and Cleveland-chapter Emmys.
