Dana-Farber Develops Platform for Discovering Protein Degraders in Cancer Treatment
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researchers have developed a new platform for discovering molecular glues that can serve as protein degradation drug candidates. This platform could significantly expand the range of disease-related proteins that can be targeted for elimination. The study, published in Nature, highlights the discovery of the first metabolically activated molecular glue degrader, suggesting that these glues could be more context-dependent and tunable than previously thought. The platform uses a systematic approach to identify molecular glues that bind E3 ligases, enzymes that tag proteins for destruction, and redirect them to target disease-related proteins.
