New 'Cicada' COVID Variant Emerges with Mild Symptoms
A new COVID-19 variant, informally dubbed 'Cicada,' is spreading and is characterized by a high number of mutations compared to previous Omicron variants. This variant, identified as BA.3.2, has around 75 mutations, allowing it to evade immune responses more effectively. Despite its ability to spread rapidly, the symptoms associated with this variant are reportedly mild, including congestion, feverish feelings, and body aches, without severe respiratory complications. Health experts emphasize that while the variant is highly transmissible, it does not lead to severe illness or hospitalizations, and symptoms are manageable with basic outpatient care.
