Philadelphia Zoo Celebrates Its Status as America's First Zoo with 'Firstival'
The Philadelphia Zoo, recognized as the first zoo in the United States, is celebrating its historical significance with a 'Firstival' event. Established in 1874, the zoo was the brainchild of Dr. William Camac, who was inspired by the London Zoo. Despite initial delays due to the Civil War, the zoo opened its gates to the public, offering a glimpse of exotic wildlife. The upcoming celebration aims to highlight the zoo's pioneering role in animal conservation and public education. The event will feature various activities, including a Ferris wheel ride, a teddy bear clinic, and live animal interactions.
