Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Flood Risk in DC Region
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for areas south of Baltimore, Maryland, effective until 11:00 PM EDT on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in place until 3:00 AM EDT on Monday, August 17, 2026, covering Fairfax County, Stafford County, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, and the District of Columbia. Heavy rains and strong winds have already caused power outages for thousands in Virginia, with over 3,500 customers affected in Loudoun County alone. A brief Tornado Warning was issued for Prince George's and Charles counties in Maryland, alongside a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Charles County. The storm is expected to clear by Monday morning, with lingering showers possible overnight.
