Canada's Deportation Drive Intensifies, Impacting Indian Nationals Significantly
Canada has deported 3,323 Indian nationals in the first half of 2026, according to data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). This figure represents nearly 88% of the total deportations of Indian nationals for the entire year of 2025, which was the highest annual number recorded. The increase in deportations is part of Canada's broader strategy to tighten immigration policies and reduce the number of temporary residents, including international students and temporary foreign workers. Indian nationals have been deported for various reasons, including breaches of immigration regulations, unsuccessful asylum applications, and visa-related fraud. This year, Indians have surpassed Mexicans as the largest group deported from Canada, with 1,573 Mexicans removed in the same period.
