World Food Prize Foundation Opens Registration for 2026 Iowa Hunger Summit to Address Food Insecurity
The World Food Prize Foundation has announced the opening of registration for the 2026 Iowa Hunger Summit, which marks its 20th anniversary. The event, themed 'Linking Arms, Feeding Communities,' is scheduled for July 22, 2026, at the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates in Des Moines, Iowa. The summit aims to tackle food and nutrition insecurity affecting 385,130 Iowans, including 120,220 children. Despite Iowa's agricultural abundance, food insecurity remains a significant issue, with an annual meal gap of nearly 73 million and a need for over $248.3 million in resources to meet the state's food needs. The summit will bring together nonprofit leaders, policymakers, educators, farmers, and community members to collaborate on strengthening food systems across Iowa. Keynote speakers, panel discussions, and interactive exhibits will focus on advancing food security efforts. A community meal-packaging event is also planned, where volunteers will prepare over 20,000 meals for local communities.
