Vermont and Quebec Intensify Rabies Vaccination Efforts Amid Rising Wildlife Cases
Vermont and Quebec are ramping up their rabies vaccination campaigns in response to an increase in cases among wildlife. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with Vermont health and wildlife authorities, plans to distribute over 900,000 vaccine baits across the state, targeting raccoons and skunks. This effort is more than double the number of baits distributed last year. In Quebec, officials are distributing over 206,000 vaccine baits near the Vermont border. The initiative aims to curb the spread of rabies, which poses a risk to humans, pets, and livestock. The increase in rabies cases has been particularly noted in northern Vermont, with most cases reported in Orleans County.
