Chicago Transit Authority Expands Bus Service, Adds Routes to Frequent Network
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is set to expand its bus service starting this Sunday, adding three new routes—No. 85 Central, No. 74 Fullerton, and No. 35 31st/35th Street—to its 'frequent' bus network. This expansion means these routes will operate at least every 10 minutes during peak hours: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The addition brings the total number of frequent network routes to nearly two dozen since the network's launch last year. Furthermore, the No. 8 bus, which serves Halsted Street, is slated to join the frequent network in December, contingent on the completion of a Chicago Department of Transportation project to reconstruct the Chicago Avenue Bridge. The CTA also plans to expand hours or frequency on six other bus routes across the city, including later weekend service on the No. 73 Armitage and No. 76 Diversey buses, and earlier weekday, weekend, and holiday service on several other lines.
