Ex-Army Contractor Released to Home Detention Amid Classified Information Leak Charges
Courtney Williams, a former Army contractor, has been accused of leaking classified information about an elite commando unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The information allegedly included names, tactics, and a unit alias, which were disclosed to a journalist and on social media. Williams, who worked for the unit as a civilian and held a top-secret security clearance, appeared in federal court in Raleigh. U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian Meyers ruled that Williams would be released under home detention and location monitoring, with restrictions on media contact and social media use. The charges against Williams include four counts of communicating and disclosing national defense information, each carrying a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The indictment alleges that Williams unlawfully disclosed sensitive information between 2022 and 2025, including tactics used by the unit and identities of individuals involved in covert missions.
