Peace Corps Celebrates 65 Years of Service with New Volunteers in the Philippines
The Peace Corps is marking its 65th anniversary by welcoming a new group of volunteers to the Philippines, one of its longest-running programs. Since its inception in 1961, the Peace Corps has sent over 9,700 American volunteers to work alongside Filipino communities, focusing on education, environmental protection, and youth empowerment. This year, 49 new volunteers and five Response Volunteers have arrived in Manila to begin their service. They will engage in activities such as co-teaching English, facilitating youth development programs, and supporting coastal resource management initiatives. The volunteers are expected to integrate into their host communities, learn local languages, and implement projects that address locally identified needs.
