UK Firm Plans to Deploy 50,000 Smart Lampposts as Data Centres in Nigeria
Conflow Power Group Limited, a UK-based company, has announced plans to deploy 50,000 solar-powered smart lampposts in Nigeria, transforming them into distributed AI data centres. The initiative, set to take place in Katsina State, aims to leverage the region's abundant sunlight and relaxed regulations. These 'iLamps' are designed to provide real-time crime prevention, free public internet, and generate revenue by leasing processing power to AI companies. While some experts argue that these lampposts cannot replace traditional data centres for high-demand AI tasks, they acknowledge their potential for smaller applications and as access points for larger data centres.
