Fort Collins Faces Traffic Delays Due to Simultaneous Road Projects
In Fort Collins, Colorado, four major road construction projects are underway simultaneously, leading to increased commute times for residents. The projects, including the Power Trail underpass, are concentrated in the south and southeast areas of the city. According to Dana Hornkohl, the city's Capital Projects Manager, the timing of these projects is influenced by funding requirements and construction logistics, particularly the availability of asphalt, which can only be laid during warmer weather. Additionally, urgent public safety concerns, such as a series of water line breaks, necessitated the inclusion of two projects. Local businesses, like the Vintage Marketplace, have been affected by the construction, experiencing a drop in customer traffic. The city acknowledges the frustration caused by the overlapping projects and aims to minimize such occurrences in the future. All four projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
