The program, which provides $200 vouchers for school clothing, closed applications just a week after opening. This has led to bipartisan criticism and calls for action from lawmakers and advocates. The program's funding issues are linked to a $43 million deficit in TANF spending, attributed to previous overspending during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a budget surplus, the state has struggled to maintain funding levels for the program.
