UCAN Launches REACH 21 Program to Support Black Male Teens in Chicago
UCAN, a social service agency in Chicago, has launched the 'Relentlessly Engaging Adolescents to Choose Hope' (REACH 21) program, specifically designed to support Black males aged 11-21. The program aims to guide participants through crucial teenage milestones and provide them with consistent adult relationships, behavioral health and wellness guidance, educational and career opportunities, and positive experiences. The mission is deeply personal for UCAN Chicago CEO Christa Hamilton, whose nephew Jonathan died from gun violence at age 21. REACH 21 offers a structured youth development and violence prevention agenda, including cognitive behavioral interventions, academic and career mentoring, financial literacy, civic engagement, and art therapy. Participants are eligible to receive up to $300 monthly based on their participation and adherence to program expectations.
