Governor Josh Green Issues Emergency Proclamation Ahead of Severe Weather in Hawaii
Governor Josh Green has announced an Emergency Proclamation in anticipation of severe weather conditions expected to impact Hawaii. The National Weather Service forecasts heavy rain, flash flooding, and damaging winds across all islands, beginning this weekend and continuing into early next week. In response, all state offices, Department of Education schools, University of Hawai'i campuses, and the Hawai'i State Legislature will be closed on Monday, February 9, 2026. The Judiciary will also close all state courthouses, extending filing deadlines and rescheduling hearings. The proclamation aims to mobilize state resources and support response efforts, effective through February 11, 2026, with the possibility of extension. Residents are urged to sign up for local alerts, have an emergency plan, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm periods.
