Senator Whitehouse Highlights Public Concern Over Climate Change Amid Trump's Dismissal
A recent survey conducted by Data for Progress reveals that a significant majority of Americans believe that extreme weather events have become more frequent over the past five years, with 61% of likely voters acknowledging this trend. This includes 72% of Democrats, 63% of Independents, and 46% of Republicans. The survey results come despite President Trump's dismissal of climate change as a 'hoax.' Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, a vocal critic of 'climate-hushing' among Democrats, emphasized that the public is more aware of the climate crisis than politicians. The survey also found that majorities link climate change to worsening wildfires, droughts, floods, hurricanes, and severe storms, with heatwaves being the most recognized consequence.
