Pennsylvania Governor Introduces New Standards for Data Center Development
Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania has unveiled new standards for data center development under the Governor’s Responsible Infrastructure Development (GRID) initiative. These standards require data center developers to demonstrate value to local communities, mitigate impacts on residents, and adhere to responsible development practices. The GRID standards focus on protecting energy affordability, promoting transparency, supporting workforce and economic development, and enhancing environmental protection. Developers who comply with these standards can benefit from a fast-track permitting process and tax incentives. The initiative aims to address community concerns about the rapid growth of data centers, particularly in Northeast Pennsylvania, where numerous projects are proposed.
