Reddit Experiments with Audio and Video Formats for Posts to Enhance User Engagement
Reddit is initiating a limited experiment to introduce new audio and video features for its text posts and comments. This test, rolling out on Reddit's apps and website, allows users to either listen to posts or view them as short-form videos. The company states that these new formats will link back to the original text posts and comments, which will remain unaltered. An early example provided by Reddit shows an eight-year-old post from r/boardgames, which has been converted into a three-minute video. This clip, seemingly utilizing AI-generated voices, narrates the original poster's question and some of the top replies, with accompanying text of the narrated posts. This initiative follows Reddit's recent addition of video comments in June, enabling Redditors to post videos within comment threads that can be viewed in a full-screen player.
