Milwaukee Resident Rebuilds Life One Year After Historic Flooding
One year after a historic flood devastated parts of Milwaukee, resident Mike Gilbert reflects on the recovery process. The August 2025 storm, described as a 1,000-year rainfall event, caused significant damage to Gilbert's home and neighborhood. Despite the destruction, Gilbert has managed to rebuild his life with the help of a supportive neighbor. The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) has been involved in flood management projects, including a $120 million initiative along Lincoln Creek, aimed at protecting homes and businesses. However, concerns remain about the readiness of local infrastructure to handle future extreme weather events.
