Brooklyn Playground Uses Recycled Wine Corks for Eco-Friendly Design
A new playground in Brooklyn, named 'Village Vibes,' has been constructed using approximately 450,000 recycled wine and champagne corks sourced from New York City restaurants. Located at the Marlboro Houses, this innovative project is part of the Public Housing Community Fund's Green Space Connections initiative. The playground features custom play structures, stormwater mitigation measures, and accessible pathways made from cork, a sustainable and permeable material. The Cork Collective, a collaboration between Rockwell Group, Amorim, and BlueWell, spearheaded the project, aiming to repurpose corks for civic improvements. This initiative not only diverts waste from landfills but also provides a safer, cooler, and more environmentally friendly play surface.
