Breakthrough Prize Foundation Announces 2026 Laureates for Scientific Achievements
The Breakthrough Prize Foundation has announced the winners of the 2026 Breakthrough Prizes, recognizing significant contributions in Life Sciences, Fundamental Physics, and Mathematics. This year, six $3 million prizes were awarded to scientists whose work has advanced human knowledge. In Life Sciences, laureates developed gene therapies for inherited blindness, sickle cell disease, and beta-thalassemia, and identified genetic causes of ALS and frontotemporal dementia. In Physics and Mathematics, winners constructed theories of fundamental forces and advanced the understanding of nonlinear systems. The awards, known as the 'Oscars of Science,' were co-founded by notable figures including Sergey Brin and Mark Zuckerberg.
