Largest Patient-Derived Organoid Biobank Advances Cancer Research
Researchers at the Wellcome Sanger Institute have developed a significant resource for cancer research: a biobank of 256 patient-derived organoids. These organoids, which are three-dimensional miniature tumors grown from patient tissue, represent a variety of cancers including colorectal, esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and ovarian. The biobank is accompanied by comprehensive genomic, transcriptomic, and clinical data, as well as results from genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screens. This resource aims to bridge the gap between traditional cancer cell lines and the diverse biology of human tumors, offering a more accurate model for studying cancer gene dependencies and therapeutic responses.
