Justice Department Sues Chinese Companies Over Fire-Prone Water Heaters
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against two Chinese companies, Cixi Miaojie Electrical Appliance Co. and Changsha Jiayi Tianzhuo Trading Co., over immersion water heaters that pose a fire risk. The lawsuit, filed in Washington, D.C., alleges that these heaters can catch fire within minutes if not fully submerged in water. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received over 235 fire-related reports and is seeking a mandatory recall. The heaters, sold under the brand 'Lakkzoom,' lack safety features found in other similar products, increasing the risk of overheating and fire.
