East Africa's Largest Media Group Resumes Operations After Military-Ordered Shutdown
East Africa's largest independent media company, Nation Media Group, has resumed operations in Uganda following a military-ordered shutdown. The closure, which affected major newspapers, television stations, and radio outlets, was lifted after discussions between the new majority owner, Tanzanian billionaire Rostam Azizi, and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. The shutdown had raised international concerns over media freedom in Uganda, where President Museveni has been in power since 1986. The media group had been forced off the air, halting newspaper printing and disrupting one of East Africa's largest media businesses. The reasons for the shutdown and its reversal have not been publicly disclosed.
