Global Sumud Flotilla Activist Detained by Israel Amid Allegations of Torture
The Global Sumud Flotilla has reported that Saif Abu Keshek, one of its activists, was detained by Israeli authorities under allegations of affiliation with a terrorist organization. Keshek, who was on an 'observer boat' not intended to reach Gaza, was reportedly harshly beaten and isolated from other participants. The flotilla claims that Keshek was subjected to systematic torture, with eyewitnesses recounting his screams during the ordeal. While most activists were taken to Greece, Keshek and another activist, Thiago Ávila, were brought to Israel for questioning. The Israeli Foreign Ministry alleges that Keshek is a leading member of the PCPA, a group linked to Hamas, and has been involved in financial transfers to the organization. Both activists are set to receive consular visits from their respective countries, Spain and Brazil, which have condemned the detentions as kidnappings in international waters.
