Sarasota County Animal Services Urges Community to Adopt as Shelter Reaches Capacity
Sarasota County Animal Services is currently facing a capacity challenge as the number of adoptable animals, including dogs, cats, and kittens, has increased significantly. The shelter is nearing its limit, with 12 adoptable cats and 46 kittens available, many of which have recently returned from foster care. Additionally, the facility has 26 dogs ready for adoption, with more arriving daily. Dana Judge, Media Relations Specialist for the Sheriff's Office, highlighted that adoption rates typically decline during the summer, exacerbating the situation. To encourage adoptions, the shelter is offering a special promotion where two kittens can be adopted for the price of one, and dogs are available for $40. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter services, microchipping, and initial vaccinations.
