Grass Fire Near Weber Canyon Threatens Structures, Causes Power Outages and Road Closures in Weber County
A grass fire, named the Dugway Fire, ignited near the mouth of Weber Canyon in Weber County, Utah, threatening nearby structures and causing significant disruption. The fire started around 3 a.m. and quickly grew to an estimated 20 acres. While homes near Bybee Drive were initially threatened, voluntary evacuations were ordered, and by Wednesday afternoon, structures were no longer considered at risk. The incident led to the closure of northbound lanes of US-89 at the I-84 Junction, though traffic has since been reopened. Additionally, power lines were shut down at the request of fire officials, affecting over 1,800 Rocky Mountain Power customers, with power later being restored. Firefighting crews made rapid progress, achieving 90% containment by Wednesday afternoon, and will continue mop-up efforts.
