Minnesota Sues Texas Governor Abbott Over Stalled Extradition of Former ICE Agent
The State of Minnesota has filed a federal lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott, alleging he has illegally withheld extradition paperwork for nearly three months for Christian Castro, a former ICE agent. Castro faces four felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one misdemeanor count of falsely reporting a crime in Hennepin County, Minnesota, stemming from a January 14 incident where he allegedly fired a gun at an occupied Minneapolis home, injuring a person. Castro was arrested in Texas on May 29 pursuant to a nationwide warrant. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, seeking to compel Governor Abbott to sign a governor’s rendition warrant.
