Colombian Red Cross Implements Early Action Protocol for El Niño
The Colombian Red Cross, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), is implementing an Early Action Protocol (EAP) to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon. This initiative focuses on anticipatory measures in the departments of Tolima and Cesar, where drought conditions are expected to worsen. The EAP, funded by the IFRC Disaster Response Emergency Fund, aims to release financial resources in response to predictable crises. The protocol includes distributing water-retention agents, nutritional supplements for livestock, and clean water supplies to vulnerable communities. The Colombian Red Cross has trained its teams and pre-positioned supplies to ensure immediate response capabilities.
