Severe Storms Trigger Tornadoes and Power Outages Across Western New York
Western New York is recovering from severe storms that struck on Wednesday evening, causing widespread damage and power outages. The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed tornadoes in multiple counties, including Niagara, Genesee, Orleans, and Seneca. Observations of tornado activity were reported in Shelby and Byron, with damage surveys underway to assess the strength and duration of the tornadoes. The storms brought down trees, power lines, and flooded roads, while large hail was also reported. Utility companies have restored power to 92% of affected customers, but over 10,000 homes and businesses remain without electricity as of Thursday morning. The storms prompted tornado warnings across Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Steuben, Seneca, and Livingston counties, some lasting until 11 p.m. Wednesday night.
