Nasire Best's Descent from High-School Athlete to White House Shooter
Nasire Best, a 21-year-old from Maryland, was shot and killed by federal agents after opening fire at a White House checkpoint. Best, who was once a high-school athlete and Amazon driver, experienced a significant mental health decline, leading to delusions of grandeur. Friends and former teammates described him as energetic and light-hearted, but noted a change in his behavior over time. Best's mental health issues became apparent after he was evicted from his apartment and began expressing delusional thoughts. He was known to the Secret Service for previous incidents near the White House, including claiming to be Jesus Christ. Despite attempts to have him committed, Best continued to exhibit troubling behavior, culminating in the shooting incident.
