New Park Under 6th Street Bridge Raises Hopes and Gentrification Concerns in Boyle Heights
A new park, the Sixth Street PARC, is set to open under the 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles, aiming to connect the Arts District and Boyle Heights. The park, designed by Hargreaves Jones and Tetra Tech, will feature recreational and cultural spaces, including sports courts, playgrounds, and performance venues. However, the project faces challenges due to the current state of the bridge, which is marred by graffiti and theft of copper wiring. Concerns about maintenance and security, particularly on the Boyle Heights side, have been raised, with discussions about creating a Business Improvement District to manage these issues.
