Driver Arrested for Striking Teen Cyclist in West Islip
A 67-year-old driver, Charles Dreitlein, has been arrested for driving his SUV into a group of teenagers on bicycles in West Islip, Long Island. The incident occurred on June 7, when the driver struck a 13-year-old cyclist, Will McCaw, and his friends on Roderick Road. The driver allegedly cursed at the children before fleeing the scene. McCaw was injured but managed to jump off his bike in time to avoid more serious harm. The SUV dragged McCaw's prized bike, valued at over $1,000, away from the scene. The driver faces multiple charges, including third-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.
