Senator Luján Introduces Stroke Act to Enhance Stroke Care and Prevention Nationwide
Senator Ben Ray Luján, a stroke survivor, has introduced the Stroke Act aimed at improving stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery across the United States. The legislation proposes investments in research, strengthening emergency response and rehabilitation services, expanding access to telestroke care, and establishing a national stroke registry. It also includes a public education campaign to help recognize stroke symptoms. Stroke is a significant public health issue in the U.S., being the fourth-leading cause of death and a major cause of long-term disability. The Act seeks to address disparities in stroke care, particularly in rural and underserved areas, by improving access to specialized care and technology.
