DEF CON Hackers Enhance Cybersecurity for U.S. Water Utilities Amid Rising Threats
At the DEF CON conference, hackers have expanded their efforts to protect U.S. water utilities from cyber threats. The new initiative, called the Water Watch Center, involves partnerships with managed detection and response providers to help small water utilities detect and mitigate cyber breaches. This comes in response to recent cyberattacks on water systems, primarily targeting small community systems with weak security measures. The initiative aims to provide scalable cybersecurity solutions for the 150,000 small water utilities across the U.S., leveraging volunteer expertise and advanced technologies like digital twins and AI agents.
