European Nations Push for Security Guarantees for Ukraine Amid Peace Talks
European countries, led by Germany, France, and the U.K., are advocating for robust and legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine as part of ongoing peace negotiations. In a joint statement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, these nations have called for direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, with active participation from both the U.S. and European countries. The statement outlines five conditions for peace, including an immediate and complete ceasefire and the freezing of Russian assets until the Kremlin ceases its aggression and compensates Ukraine for war damages. European leaders are set to further discuss their approach at upcoming meetings, including a G7 summit in Evian and a European Council summit in Brussels. Despite these efforts, it remains uncertain if Russian President Vladimir Putin will engage in talks with European leaders, who have been excluded from direct negotiations so far.
