Francesca Hong's Defeat in Wisconsin Primary Highlights Progressive Challenges
Francesca Hong, a Democratic candidate for the Wisconsin gubernatorial nomination, lost to Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. Hong, who was vying to become the first democratic socialist governor in the U.S., was initially leading in polls but faced a late surge from Crowley. Crowley re-entered the race with the backing of Governor Tony Evers after other candidates faltered. Hong's campaign was marked by her progressive platform, including opposition to data centers and a pledge to cut tax incentives for AI projects. Despite her initial popularity, concerns about her electability in a general election against Republican candidate Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is backed by President Trump, led to her defeat.
