ER Visits for Tick Bites Surge in Northeast, Raising Health Concerns
Emergency room visits for tick bites have reached their highest level in nearly a decade in the Northeast, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The data shows that for every 100,000 ER visits in the region, 163 were related to tick bites, a significant increase from 52 in March. Nationally, the rate is 71 per 100,000, compared to an average of 30 per 100,000 at this time of year. Ticks are known carriers of various diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anaplasmosis. The increase in tick activity is attributed to an early start to the season and heightened public awareness, leading more individuals to seek medical attention.
