Enveda's 'Exercise in a Tablet' for Obesity Shows Promising Early Clinical Results
Enveda, a biotechnology company, has announced positive early clinical trial results for its oral obesity drug candidate, ENV-308, dubbed an 'exercise in a tablet.' A Phase 1 trial in healthy volunteers demonstrated an 'exceptional' gastrointestinal safety profile for the drug. ENV-308 is designed to mimic N-lactoyl-phenylalanine (Lac-Phe), a hormone naturally elevated after exercise, which Stanford University researchers in 2022 found to suppress feeding and obesity in mice. Unlike natural Lac-Phe, which is quickly cleared by the body, ENV-308 is engineered for daily oral dosing to provide sustained effects. The trial, involving 88 healthy adults, reported no serious adverse events, discontinuations, or dose interruptions, suggesting a differentiation from GLP-1 medicines that often cause gastrointestinal side effects like nausea and vomiting. Although not designed to measure weight loss, the study observed a decrease in leptin levels, an appetite-control hormone, particularly in participants with higher ...
