Amtrak Passengers Stranded in Florida Due to Wildfires, Facing Overcrowded Conditions
Hundreds of passengers on an Amtrak train in Florida were stranded for nearly 24 hours due to wildfires near the tracks. The incident occurred on Train 98, part of the Silver Meteor route between Miami and New York, which was forced to stop near Jacksonville. Amtrak confirmed that the train returned to Miami with 232 passengers onboard after being delayed in Deland, Florida. Passengers reported long delays, limited updates, and worsening conditions, including overflowing bathrooms. Amtrak provided snacks and drinks during the delay, and additional food was offered once the train reached Orlando. The wildfires, caused by drought conditions, led to service disruptions and affected multiple routes and connections across the region.
