Cleveland Foundation's $400 Million Initiative Aims to Transform Local Community
The Cleveland Foundation has launched a $400 million initiative to support the development of an 'innovation district' in the Hough area of Midtown, Cleveland. This move is part of the foundation's broader strategy to enhance local community services, including healthcare, business development, and career services. The foundation, which has assets of approximately $3 billion, relocated its headquarters to this historically underresourced community in 2023. The initiative is designed to make philanthropy more visible and impactful at the local level, according to Cleveland Foundation President Lillian Kuri. The foundation's efforts are financed through a loan from its endowment, ensuring that its annual grantmaking budget remains unaffected.
