NAIMOS Shuts Down Illegal Mining in Ghana's Eastern Region, Seizes Equipment
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has intensified its efforts to combat illegal mining activities in Ghana's Eastern Region. On December 6, 2025, the task force conducted a series of raids across Akwadum, Ayigbe Town, and Ankaase Osino, targeting illegal mining sites along the Birim and Ayensu river corridors. During these operations, NAIMOS dismantled active mining sites, disabled heavy machinery, and seized five excavators. The task force also confiscated diesel fuel, industrial pumping machines, and other equipment used in illegal mining. The operations led to the destruction of makeshift accommodations and processing shelters, effectively halting mining activities in the area. NAIMOS's actions are part of a broader effort to protect forest reserves and vital water sources from environmental degradation caused by illegal mining.
