U.S. and Allies Warn of North Korean IT Workers Funding Weapons Programs
The United States, along with several international allies, has issued a joint alert regarding North Korean IT workers who are allegedly using false identities to fund the country's weapons programs. The FBI and the State Department, in collaboration with agencies from countries including Japan, South Korea, and the U.K., have highlighted the threat posed by these workers. They reportedly use sophisticated methods, including artificial intelligence, to conduct cyber activities that generate revenue for North Korea's unlawful weapons programs. The alert emphasizes the need for vigilance among companies and online platforms to identify and mitigate this threat. In 2026 alone, eight individuals have been sentenced for their involvement in these schemes.
