Colorado Schools Show Math Improvement, Reading and Writing Stagnate in Latest CMAS Results
The Colorado Department of Education released the spring Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), PSAT, and SAT assessment results, indicating a continued trend of improvement in math proficiency among students. The percentage of students meeting or exceeding math standards statewide increased from 35.9% to 37.3%, marking a four-year streak of growth. However, progress in English Language Arts (ELA), which includes reading and writing, remained largely flat, shifting marginally from 44.8% last year to 44.7%. State education officials, including Colorado Education Commissioner Susana Córdova, acknowledged these gains, particularly in math and upper-elementary literacy, but emphasized the need for further work to address persistent achievement gaps. El Paso County school districts generally mirrored these statewide trends, with most large districts showing slight improvements in math scores and varied results in ELA, where some districts saw minor declines.
