EU Launches AI Gigafactories Initiative to Enhance Europe's Computing Capacity
The European Union has announced a call for tenders to establish up to seven AI Gigafactories across Europe. This initiative is part of the EU's strategy to boost its technological sovereignty and position itself as a leader in AI development. The project is supported by up to €10 billion in EU and national funding, with an expectation to attract at least €20 billion in private investment. The AI Gigafactories will provide infrastructure for training and developing advanced AI models, adhering to EU standards on data protection, safety, security, and ethics. The initiative aims to enhance Europe's AI computing capacity and support various stakeholders, including startups, SMEs, industry, academia, and public authorities.
