Lawsuit Filed Against ICE Over Alleged Human Rights Violations at Texas Detention Facility
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concerning the conditions at Camp East Montana, the largest immigration detention facility in the United States. The lawsuit, filed by several legal organizations, accuses ICE of maintaining 'dire' conditions that violate the human and constitutional rights of detainees. The facility, located on El Paso’s Fort Bliss military base, has been operational since August and is described as a sprawling tent camp. Allegations include inadequate medical and mental health care, unsanitary living conditions, and abusive treatment by guards. The lawsuit highlights that only 20% of detainees have a criminal background, yet the conditions are described as punitive. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has denied these allegations, calling them 'unequivocally false.'
