GoFundMe Report Highlights Increased Crowdfunding for Basic Needs Amid Economic Struggles
GoFundMe's 2025 'Year in Help' report reveals a significant rise in crowdfunding campaigns aimed at covering essential expenses such as rent, utilities, and groceries. The report, released on Tuesday, indicates a 20% increase in fundraisers for these basic needs, following a quadrupling of such campaigns the previous year. This trend is observed across major English-speaking markets, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The report highlights the economic challenges faced by many, including weakened wage growth, sluggish hiring, and low consumer confidence. GoFundMe CEO Tim Cadogan noted that the platform is witnessing a growing number of people struggling to meet the rising cost of living, prompting them to seek financial assistance through crowdfunding.
